Clothing

General Information

All of the youth and leaders (and anyone entering the camp) will be required to be dressed in Book of Mormon attire, representative of that period of time.

The Stake has made it possible for everyone to acquire costumes for this event. These costumes are being prepared for you at the Stake Center, in the High Council room by the costume committee.

Your responsibility is to attend your ward’s scheduled time to be sized and fitted in order for you to choose your costumes to be sewn individually for you to be ready for you to attend. A costume will consist of a basic tunic, a colorful overlay, and a sash to tie it all together. If you are not able to attend your ward’s scheduled time, you may attend another ward time. Please notify us, so we can plan on you. Please check out the ward schedules below. If your ward numbers are more than 20, we will begin at 6:00pm. Smaller ward groups will begin the activity night at 7:00pm.

All the youth will be provided with two costumes. After receiving your costumes, you are welcome to embellish them with trim, beads, feathers, jewels, whatever; depending on how you choose to wear them. They are to hang below the knee and are provided with an open kick-pleat for easy movement. Please, do not lose them. Please do not ruin them. Please put them away some place safely, in order to be ready to be worn in June for the event.

Please do not shorten or destroy the basic pattern of these costumes. They are designed to be worn with thin shorts and tops to be hidden underneath them. They are also thin and light to keep them as comfortable as possible in the warm month of June during the event, while still clothing you, to fulfill the ultimate experience of beingthere in Book of Mormon attire. The decorating/and or embellishing of these costumes is not required. BUT, it is A LOT OF FUN!

Leaders and stake staff have the opportunity to have 3 costumes prepared for them. Please plan on attending with your wards.
We will plan to have extra costumes at the camp for anyone entering the camp, unplanned, to be dressed appropriately, but, of course, we would like all planned visits to prepare with us accordingly, ahead of time.

We would invite any and all to donate used sheets to our cause. We are interested in flat, cotton sheets especially, any color or size. No florals or characters or fads. Southwest designs, stripes, and geometric designs are most favorably desired. We will be racing to replenish our weekly reducing stacks with more freshly cut and sewn costumes in order to keep up with the demand. It will be a daunting task, but we have 30 seamstresses devoted to this cause. Receiving used sheets to supply us with material and fabric is a great source of help and support from the wards.

Please plan on wearing your costume with closed-toe shoes. Sandals were likely to have been the footwear worn during Book of Mormon times, but we will all be wearing shoes to keep our feet cleaner and safer for the duration.

Head protection: We have some shepherd’s cloth head covers designed to sash around the head to cover bald and unprotected heads. These will be available at the Stake Center where your costumes are secured.

All of the youth will be divided into tribes with tribal parents. Each tribe will have matching buffs to distinguish each tribe. A buff can to used as a colorful headband, or worn as an arm or leg band or evenused as a hair scrunchie. These will be given out up at camp as each participant is sorted into his or her tribe.

A satchel will be provided for each participant at the quest. These will be used to carry scriptures, journals, songbooks, water, and any other necessary items to use throughout their days.
